Kruse and Larson were both faculty members at Southern Oregon University during the 2022-2023 academic year, where they collaborated and worked closely in the studios together, quickly realizing a kinship between their work. 

Kruse’s ceramic sculptures layer botanical imagery and gestures of intimacy to explore notions of reverie in a pursuit of the creation of an oneiric garden. Gardens have long stood as a reflection of one's relationship to the world, an attempt to control or an act of care and in her sculptures Kruse brings attention to the role of the garden as a mirror.  

Kyle Larson’s painted dreamscapes explore notions of temporality, cycles of decay and transformation through painting and drawing in which he constructs spaces where rhythmic, atmospheric phenomenon and transitory forces disrupt, push, and embed bodies and objects into layered narratives. 

In this exhibition presented at 934 gallery in Columbus, Ohio, ceramic sculptures and paintings collide in their abstraction of the natural world and the body, presenting elements of the absurd and contemporary anxieties. Together in the same space, the soft rippling surface of pinched clay and the paint strokes left behind after each swipe of the brush coalesce to create an undulating world full of imaginary dreamscapes that ask the viewer to reflect upon their current relationship to the world around them.
